The celebration of Shane Warne’s life continued in the minutes before the first ball of play in Australia’s Test series opener against Sri Lanka in Galle on Wednesday morning.

In a brief on-field presentation, Sri Lankan cricket officials presented a special plaque to Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley, who accepted it on behalf of Warne’s family.

‘In Sri Lankan hearts. You shall remain a legend of the game of cricket and humanity,’ it read.

The cricket superstar, who passed away in March, was a beloved figure in Sri Lanka, involving himself in a string of humanitarian projects in the country.
