Less than a week after it was unveiled, Canberra’s giant Magpie sculpture has been attacked.
Vandals damaged the feet of the 2.4 metre bird as well as the hot chip ‘Big Swoop’ is feasting on.
It’s understood the damaged occurred sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
City Renewal Authority CEO Malcolm Snow said the agency is now working with the artist, Yanni Pounartzis, to carry our repairs.
“We are very disappointed that the much-loved sculpture Big Swoop in Garema Place has been damaged.”
A fence has now been set up around the bird.
