An exclusive restaurant in Sydney’s eastern suburbs is under fire for banning diners with visible tattoos and heavy jewellery in an attempt to discourage customers with “intimidating appearances”.
A note on the front window of Bedouin restaurant in Double Bay states the dress code/house policy which includes no visible tattoos, no designer labelled apparel and no heavy jewellery.
“We value our customers and community stakeholders, and have always implemented house rules that includes a dress policy that discourages intimidating appearances,” Bedouin co-licensee Poata Okeroa told The Daily Telegraph.
The dress code also reportedly applies to staff.
Despite the backlash over the dress code, Woollahra councillor Mary-Lou Jarvis believes it is up to individual businesses to set their own rules.
However, others aren’t fans with some labelling the controversial move “discriminatory”.
