Imagine a world where your Taxi Driver wasn’t a human, or even some kind of artificial intelligence… But a living, swimming… Goldfish?
I had to rub my eyes too, but it turns out our Israeli Scientists taught a Goldfish how to drive a “car.”
Check it out:
I am excited to share a new study led by Shachar Givon & @MatanSamina w/ Ohad Ben Shahar: Goldfish can learn to navigate a small robotic vehicle on land. We trained goldfish to drive a wheeled platform that reacts to the fish’s movement (https://t.co/ZR59Hu9sib). pic.twitter.com/J5BkuGlZ34

The vehicle is driven using a camera which records the fish’s movements and translates them into directions.
Using some fish food & a battery (not dissimilar to a Tesla?) the “car” was able to be driven around!
The point of this study was to test the fish’s navigational abilities.
How about it? Do you think one day Goldie or Freddy might be driving us around?
