The song that graces our ears each Christmas has come back to bite Mariah Carey in the a**!
Musician Andy Stone is suing superstar Mariah Carey $20 million ($27 million AUD) for alleged financial loss due to the copyright infringement of her famous song ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
Stone stated that he co-wrote and recorded a song of the same name in 1989, however never gave permission for it to be used.
Andy Stone alleged Mariah and her co-writer Walter Afanasieff “knowingly, wilfully, and intentionally engaged in a campaign to infringe” his copyright.
Mariah’s version has sold an estimated 16 million copies worldwide, earning a reported $60 million ($83 million AUD) in royalties over the past three decades!
It looks like Mariah will be wanting something a little different for Christmas this year…
