The 2022 winner of The Voice Australia has been announced, and people are not happy.
24-year-old Lachie Gill from Rita Ora’s team came out on top, taking home $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music Australia.
The Melbourne PE teacher beat Thando Sikwila, Jordan Tavita and Faith Sosene, citing that he “never, ever would’ve expected” to win.

Despite getting the most votes, social media erupted with some complaining that he was the least diverse of the four.
Yep a white boy with no voice won #TheVoiceAU 🙄
What more could go wrong aye? Stop white washing everything. Stop making us all look bad. We must demand to see all the votes that came in @TheVoiceAU— Ted Lundy (@teddy_lundy) May 29, 2022
I hate people pulling the race card but how did the weakest voice outta the four finalists, who happened to be the only white person outta all of them, win #thevoiceau ? You cannot convince me Lachy was a deserving winner! Well done once again for showing your privilege!

Really bad, 3 people if colour with incredible voices and the one white guy with tge average voice wins. Well done Australia providing yet again if you aren't white you can't win #TheVoiceAU

Not happy at all with the result on @TheVoiceAU you had 3 amazing singers with beautiful voices and the white guy with an average voice wins please make it make sense #TheVoiceAU

thando, faith, jordyn >>>> lachie. wtf was that. i honestly hope the voice loses ratings dramatically next season after this, 3 amazing POC powerhouses losing to a white male with average tone, no musical identity, and a weak higher register, so confused #TheVoiceAU

Don’t be boring and vote for the good looking white guy please everyone? There are so many of them in the mix on radio, stage etc.
Young singers need to see & hear more variety. Not many in our faces who have the depth and richness of the other three #TheVoiceAU— SRPassesItOn (@SallyRMelb) May 29, 2022
I spoke too soon! of course #TheVoiceAU viewers would choose the only white person in the line-up🥴 get it together Australia https://t.co/agbVz82EsX pic.twitter.com/3Kwv5fjEOJ
